Meet the Candidate: Pollyanna Ford

Pollyanna Ford is running for one seat as Supervisor of the Checklist (6 year term). Here are Pollyanna’s answers to our 2022 NHBA Candidate Survey

How long have you lived in North Hampton? What do you love most about living here?

I have lived here in North Hampton for 12 years.  What I love about our town is the sense of community I have felt.  We have been farming here and have been greatly supported by our neighbors whom I truly love.

What position are you running for and why?

About a year ago, I decided to pay more attention to what was going on in local government.  As I got started, the more I learned, the more I realized how little I knew. What can I do for a town I love, a town I have planted roots in?  I started with a very basic first step, voting roles.  This seemed like a tangible task. I am ashamed to say I knew little more about what was going on than who was running for the major seats in town government. I also had a basic understanding of issues I felt were important to me.

I had never heard of a Supervisor of the Checklist role, let alone that there are 3 in North Hampton!  I asked for a copy of my towns registered voter list and started to dig in. Here is wat I found:

  • Well over 700 people who no longer lived here were still registered to vote prior to state mandated cleaning in 2021.
  • There were two people registered to vote for at least the past 14 years from the house I have lived in for the past twelve years

I then learned the checklist is only “cleaned” every ten years which explained much of what I was seeing.  However, given the over 700 names that accumulated in the 10 years between cleaning the list, I recognize more needs to be done to making sure we have an up to date, reliable list each and every voting cycle.

I am a firm believer in ballot integrity, the right to vote and the need for each vote to count. Regardless of party, this is “We the People of North Hampton,” first line of defense toward insuring the vote.

I will strive for efficient and effective ways to keep our list updated at all times.  I would love the opportunity to serve my town and continue to learn more about the process and possibly introduce new ways of keeping the voter checklist accurate and up to date in between the current ten year mandatory window.

How do you think the NHBA can best work with you in your efforts?

Thank you NHBA for hosting such an important event.  I think creating new inventive ways to encourage more participation in our town business would be one way the association could help.
